Disney Officially Announces "Disney Springs"

Today Disney officially announced its plans for "Disney Springs" the new refurbishment plan for Downtown Disney.

Many of you may have heard of another plan in the works titled "Hyperion Warf', but for some reason this plan was scrapped and Disney went in a different direction. This new Downtown will be family focused and add a ton of new shops and dining.

 Disney's Springs concept from:

"The story of Disney Springs begins at our new Town Center, which is oriented around a series of bubbling natural springs that first attracted settlers to the area. From there, the town grew to encompass three additional neighborhoods: The Landing, Marketplace and West Side – each with its own distinct charm and atmosphere. For more about each of these districts, click here."

There will be four different districts now as Disney keeps the Marketplace and the West Side. They will add in an area called "The Landing" which will be colorful commerical district with waterfront views. The are also developing a "Town center" which will be themed like a promenade with dining and shopping.

Looking through the concept sketches I am also seeing a little bit of a big picture event happening, and see why the Hyperion concept may have been abandoned. There is no coincidence that the area has be reimagineered to what they are now calling "Disney Springs" as it is connected by a walkway to their resort "Saratoga Springs". Disney has taken the concept of Saratoga,NY and a little thriving town which they began with for their resort and turned it into something much larger. Not only will this increase business to the new Downtown, but it also gives the resort a better anchor then what exists. Saratoga Springs Resort will now be a like a thriving town and community.  I imagine this is how Disney envisioned the area to begin when they first took on redeveloping the land for "Saratoga Springs" What are your thoughts on the new concept?
